Burning can also be involuntary. There was that Norwegian composer who lost most of what he composed but never published in a fire. Theodor Mommsen (historian and nobel laureate for literature) is also said to have never gotten over the loss of his stuff (iirc he had to be prevented by force from running into the burning house to rescue it). As a result the post-Caesarian part of Roman history never got (re*)written.
