Word 2 is often used in connection with Thai food.

I did not know that!

That was probably because I had a brain fart, and was completely wrong. Sorry, everyone... :-[

Meh.  It happens.

More clues?

- LPWB word #2 is apparently the name of a drug in the Discworld series of novels, and is also regional slang for a modified car (on Earth, not Discworld)
- Bluenose might use LPWB word #2 to describe what Aggie and I would call a two-four.

That makes #2 clearly Slab (I don't even have to look that up)
Let's try the sandwich slab...okay, that it isn't
bacon slab...neither?

Another arcane structural engineering clue!
- The LPWB can be thought of as "going both ways", not because it's bisexual (in fact, it's asexual - it's been established that it's usually made of reinforced concrete, after all), but because of the way it distributes loads.

And another clue:
- LPWB word #1 refers to the overall appearance of the LPWB.

Last though "bacon slab" does sound delicious Post

Americans may think Belgians invented it. ;)

Last now I can't stop hearing the words bacon slab in my head Post.

Americans (or Canadians, for that matter) may also think that LPWB word #1 is something cooked in a toaster.

Shall we sum up the clues?

- two words
- you can find it in the structure of certain buildings
- reminiscent of a food
- the LPWB is typically made out of reinforced concrete
- the LPWB can be thought of as something that's present in every reinforced concrete building, but with things removed.
- LPWB word #1 is a food that some people have for breakfast.
- LPWB word #2 is sometimes used as a unit of measurement for (or style of) cake.  It can also be a unit of measurement for meat or wood, among other things!
- LPWB word #1, as mentioned, is a food that is often eaten at breakfast.  It is not a pancake, but is often served at restaurants that serve pancakes.
- LPWB word #1 can also be used as a verb; it can be used to describe certain politicians.
- LPWB word #2 is not "pound" or "layer"
- LPWB word #2 is apparently the name of a drug in the Discworld series of novels, and is also regional slang for a modified car (on Earth, not Discworld)
- Bluenose might use LPWB word #2 to describe what Aggie and I would call a two-four.
- LPWB word #1 refers to the overall appearance of the LPWB.

- arcane structural engineering clues:
   - the LPWB is typically square, or close to it.  If length-to-width ratio for the area in question were greater than about 2-to-1, something other than the LPWB would probably be chosen (though several LPWBs could be butted together to cover a rectangular area, provided each LPWB is supported along every edge).
   - The LPWB can be thought of as "going both ways", not because it's bisexual (in fact, it's asexual - it's been established that it's usually made of reinforced concrete, after all), but because of the way it distributes loads.

BONUS!  New arcane structural engineering clue:
- adding LPWB word #1 implies that the dead load of the entire LPWB is reduced (compared to LPWB word #2 on its own, all else being equal).

Last I'm getting hungry - where's my bacon slab? Post

Ok, I can see the pattern made with rebar lookin' sorta waffly...

Slab as unit of measure? OK, gotcha, where the shape is equivalent to a reference point of "one".

New word...BRB!!

OK, new word.

Three syllables, suitable for the meaning of the word.

Slow, in suite.

Stanley Kubrick liked one of George's for Barry.

WTF indeed!  And FTW!

You can order cake by the slab, right?   ;)

Yes, Chatty was right on with w a f f l e   s l a b!

It's a type of two-way (i.e. the reinforcing steel runs in two directions, usually at 90 degrees to each other) concrete structural slab with the concrete removed between the reinforcing bars.  This makes them lighter than a standard floor slab, but more labour-intensive and therefore usually more expensive.

And it looks like this:

Last now where's that bacon? Post

OK, more clues for the LPWB game!

It was Colonial before it was European.

It was forbidden in much of Iberia.

It sounds like something that Abraham's wife disliked intensly enough to prohibit it.

Something to do with pipes? The first pipe smokers got trouble with the inquisition in Spain.

No smoking pipes, and not particularly naughty, unless you're a Spaniard from the late 1500's.

Another new clue?

Dancers consider it a distinctive "drag".

Mexia' and Mexico were accustomed to a faster version than that with which we are familiar, or with which the propagators of the typical suite were, either. (How very baroque of them.) ;)
