Shotguns will be useless, shoggoths have no vital organs. There is actually no secure method on record about how to destroy one (although it is not impossible).

No, according to At the Monuntains of Madness they live in Antarctica without problems. I guess they have some internal heating system.

Could you provide some visual info on those mysterious aardelopes? I guess they are not just mutant jackalopes.

No photographer has ever pictured one and come back alive.  They are a cross between an aarvark and an antelope.  Not to be confused with the antevark, which is the other way around.

EDIT: Last there has to be aardlopes post

Are they as resistant to heat as to cold? The Shoggoths, not the aardelopes, jackalopes or antevarks...

I was thinking oversized welding torch, or a very high voltage cattle prod...
Another favourite method for dealing with monsters are; first freeze then add ballistic weapons.   ;D

Or "nuke the site from orbit"  :D

Well, electrocution has been discussed, as has fire. But no handheld device currently known would do.

Not good against a basically shapeless enemy, especially a several meter diameter one that can engulf (and probably digest) you whole.

Gyps means vulture (are the gypsies the vulture clan?*) and aetos means eagle. The lammergeier/bearded vulture is the most eagle-like vulture both in looks and behaviour.
