I could not tell-- the kid was somewhat unique, in that he had a "hand stump" that gave him quite a bit of control that would be otherwise missing (if he'd not had anything past the wrist, say).

But the amazing thing was the cost (after machine's purchase) was roughly $5.  That lets him and his father experiment a great deal, with different hands for different uses. 

The days of the character Manny, from RAH's The Moon is a Harsh Mistress are not that far away.  I also saw a NOVA feed that would impart a sense of touch to prosthetic hands.
