I also love the bright colors-- from the video I expect the boy was engaged in the project, and got to choose for himself.

That hand looks really sophisticated, was it my impression or it did have more than one freedom level? Good engineering.

I could not tell-- the kid was somewhat unique, in that he had a "hand stump" that gave him quite a bit of control that would be otherwise missing (if he'd not had anything past the wrist, say).

But the amazing thing was the cost (after machine's purchase) was roughly $5.  That lets him and his father experiment a great deal, with different hands for different uses. 

The days of the character Manny, from RAH's The Moon is a Harsh Mistress are not that far away.  I also saw a NOVA feed that would impart a sense of touch to prosthetic hands.
