everyone calls me andrew or andy. it is not my name but yorkshire people cannot grasp the difference. even people i have worked with for 3.5 years call me andrew. when i arrived in my job all the logins for my computer said andrew, i got an email yesterday from someone who had wriiten my email address correctly (which has my blinking name in it!!!!!!) and started the email 'Dear Andrew'....


... i am starting to think that perhaps i am the one who has got it wrong

That's very impolite.  If you don't know someone's name, it's much better to call them "hey, you" or "boyo".

In high school, one of my teachers called me "Rob" for a year.
