Musa, the Banana, maybe.

I have to check, whether there is an "Attack of the Killer Bananananananas" movie
I definitely prefer bananas to tomatos.

Bananananas only really get killer in dackerys, you know.

The old or the new Beowulf?
I read that it looks best in the 3D version.

Yup. The movie isn't perfect but I like the fact that the 3D thing is being used without the cheap tricks. It brings out the detail of the sets (I saw The Nightmare before Christmas with the same technique 2 weeks ago and it was like watching the movie for the first time).

I hope to see it this evening. Unfortunately I have the choice between dubbed in 3D and original in 2D.
It is abridged anyway because the way the director wanted it contained to much bare skin to keep the low age limit the company wanted. Full version probably only on DVD (reminds me of King Arthur where the same happened)

The full effort to cover Beowulf's *manhood* in strategic ways becomes hilarious. I also wonder if Angelina Jolie allowed a full digital scan of her body...

Joe's Palace - Stephen Poliakoff

This director/writer and Adrian Johnston's haunting music have me totally captivated. If I had to spend the rest of my life doing just one thing, it would be watching Poliakoff's films* continually, endlessly, remorselessly. However roundly any of his films end, I am always left with the sense of something just beyond, not quite caught, mesmeric, peaceful, greater.

Further info:  Stephen Poliakoff answers questions about his work.

* is there a word for films made for TV ? TV drama is definitely not right for his work.

I need access to his work.

<<the people who 'rule' over our lives, (whether it is the governing class, the media or the world of commerce) do have a very simplified view of what the rest of us want. This is partly due to the current obsession with focus groups and partly because the world is moving so fast and people feel they have to buy into one view of things in order to try to keep control of the uncontrollable.>>

Can we get him to slap the current US political scene (both sides) upside the head with a big stick?? And let him 'splain this to them??

Far as I can see his stuff is only avaiable on DVD - (and his one real movie made as a film not for tv at some huge cost like around £160). His stuff is VERY British, English even, so it either won't export at all, or it will export on the quaint old country ticket.

I could throw some stills into the Guess the Movie thread ;) ;)

I saw Beowulf that evening as announced (sick since then, no connection I think).
I chose the dubbed 3D. The dubbing was actually very good. I wonder, whether Angelina did her own dubbing because the voice was extremly similar. What I could not find out was , whether they changed the Old English to Old German when Grendel and his mother talked in the German version.
In general I was quite impressed and had expected much worse. They took a lot of details from the epic that few will actually notice.
Of course they did do changes to the story but it was (in my opinion) not just to please a US audience that wants just to see action (and a few hints of sex). The moral of the epic is more straightforward and would probably be lost to  most, e.g. in each fight Beowulf acts with less justification but stronger means from unarmed combat with a disturber of the peace to fighting a dragon defending his rightful possessions with metal shield, sword and companions. The film tells its own psychological backstory and asks the question about true heroism and what is made of it without really abusing the substance of the original. They overdid the action part in the second half a bit too much in my opinion.
Interestingly the men looked far more real than the women (except for Jolie's face which was close to perfection).
Maybe I'll do a review some day.
