Iain banks has died. Probably my favorite writer. A man as much at home writing about about scotch whiskey or gas giant cloud creatures. far too young.
:candle:
He will be missed. :(
There are some nice tributes here (http://www.bbc.co.uk/news/entertainment-arts-22838993).
He will indeed be missed. :(
So what was your favourite books by him?
I find naming just one impossible as he wrote in different styles depending on if it was Science fiction or fiction or as Goat Starer mentioned about whiskey or Scotland...
I'm very fond of The Crow Road and Whit but also his first five Culture books.
I guess I have this summers reading all planned now. :-\
Strangely I have never read any.
change that...
im a great fan of the crow road but its really all about the sci fi for me. he is the best science fiction writer (i think) of the past 30 years. really inventive, with asimovs eye for the future and the politics of the future.
i think the player of games is probably my favorite... although it changes whenever read one

I think
Whit might be a suitable start for you. :)
Thanks. I've kindled* Whit.
*am I the first to coin this word?
I think you can nounify or verble anything. Whether it gets picked up by an authoritative dictionary is another story...
The only problem here is that the word is already taken by another meaning. If a kid says that it has kindled, it just wants to obscure the fact that it has played with matches or a burning glass ;)
Many words in English have more than one meaning, even many meanings sometimes.
But in this case the original is a bit too dominant.
But there's context and usage. I wouldn't say "I've kindled Whit" meaning I'd sent it up in smoke.
Well, you could have found religion and put it into practice ;)
Religion? I wouldn't know which to choose.
The one true one of course ;)
;D
Nice one Swato!

Oh, I agree. Problem being, it's entirely personal, so the ones already out there are obviously false. ;)
