Will you join the BAN WIDESCREEN campaign?

I am using the power of my mind to bring about the destruction of WIDESCREEN
Go away. You're bonkers.
My mind is open to more information.
Where can I buy stickers?
I've joined the TALLSCREEN campaign instead

Even Amazon has now changed their website to a widescreen format.

I am forced to scroll.

We demand the restoration of square surfing.

This is a capitalist outrage designed to force people to buy new computers.

Tallscreen!
No more 'camera follows falling body or bomb to the ground'
Knurrhähne sind eßbar aber empfehlen würde ich das nicht unbedingt.
The aspitriglos is edible though I do not actually recommend it.

Widescreen for the internet?!

Rubbish!  I thought the poll was for television & dvds (which is rubbish enough widescreen).

Tallscreen is appealing, especially for work where I haz dual monitors.  Except that my taskbar already fills too quickly (why can't MS just stack a second layer instead of flipping to a new one?).
WWDDD?

You know that you can double the thickness of your taskbar, right? Just do a right click on the taskbar to unlock it, then place the arrow on the upper edge and drag it upwards until it gets as many rows as you want.

I do like movies and TV on widescreen, I guess it kinda makes sense do it for websites but most likely our dearest Griffin's problem is that she is using a low resolution. ;)

Nope, didn't know.  Thanks.  Still grumbling about having to do it manually, because if I leave it large it mucks with the dual monitor setup worse than normal (for doublewide windows).

You wouldn't happen to know how to spread it across two monitors?  It only appears in the left one.

---

Widescreen is OK for TV/video if one has a large TV, or one of correct ration.  I am still on a fairly modest squarish CRT and don't plan to change for a while.

Not that I know (I have a dual setup too and sometimes I wish it could) although you can move it around to any edge of any monitor, you may want to consider leaving it on the left side of your left monitor, for instance. Just drag the taskbar and it will begin moving.

hmm... knew about that but just gave it another try...   is there a way to re-orient it such that the Start button & quick-launch is at the bottom rather than the top?

Good way to go nearly squarescreen on one side and widescreen on the other.

I don't have a particularly low resolution. That's a smokescreen (sic) you're trying to throw up there.

It doesn't make sense for ANYTHING IMO (non-humble).

It's stupid for TV's as it wastes the space above them and steals more room space.

It's stupid for websites as it increases the scroll down activity (which is tiring; I'm feeble).

The only single context that has any grain of rationality is for laptops so one can get one's nose closer to the screen (work it out, you're clever). Good for the short-sighted who cannot afford spectacles. And those who like sniffing LCD.

It's just another ASSAULT on our FREEDOMS.

Not that I know, and it is a shame because it makes much more sense than having it on top, go blame M$.  :P

Erm, @1240x1024 (typical 4:3) I don't have the need to scroll sideways ever, so unless you are @640x480...

BTW, FF3 allows scaling so you can make the font and pics bigger while at the same time using the highest resolution possible if the problem is a too small font. Obviously if you have an old monitor it wont make any difference.

Re: TV, widescreen sounds stupid if you a) watch old shows in a new set, or b) watch new shows and have an older TV. All modern (and I'm talking since 50 years ago) movies have a widescreen aspect in fact some have a wider aspect that the new HDTVs.

And you can get a widescreen to watch widescreen shows and keep the old one for old shows... ;)

Sorry Griff, you must blame the 'intelligent' designer for having our eyes side by side.

Bob in a quantum-state-of-faith

I didn't vote.  I have a widescreen LCD (HP 20" w2007 to be exact) and my 2nd monitor is widescreen too. (Acer x163w, roughly 17" wide, but it's currently oriented as tallscreen).

I see no problem, really.

On the OTHER hand-- if you TWEAK your browser's settings, it will AUTOMATICALLY RE-FLOW the webcontent to fit the resolution you are using..... or didn't you know that?

A Lecture on MyEyes

Even though my eyes are side by side, they actually work more efficiently flicking up and down than side to side. Especially since by manipulating my eyebrows I can achieve different height focus for each eye but doing the same side to side makes me puke. Additionally my head will nod up and down easily but turning it side to side is accompanied by loud crunching noises and screams.

You WANT me to SHOUT?

NooooooooooooooooooooooooooooooooooooOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOO! to WIDESCREEN

It's irritating enough when desktop icons gain independence. I spend half my life making sure that DOESN'T happen EITHER.

As my Mum says, I just want a phone that makes phone calls.

Either you are missing the point, or you are just too young to understand

Possibly, this will turn out to be one of those UK-US problemettes.  They abandoned personal space regulations in the building industry over here. We all live in matchboxes and matchboxes are NOT WIDE.

I am amazed at the lack of resistance to being FORCED into WIDESCREEN.

Don't you realise you are being BRAINWASHED?
