I'm trying to get at a file that's evidently in the archives of the University of Berlin, but not speaking the language makes it impossible to even find it. If I can find it, I can get it translated, but getting my hands on it is the problem.

Which university? Depending on how you count there are 3 or more.
Freie Universität (FU)
Technische Universität (TU)
Humboldt-Universität (HU)
Universität (formerly Akademie) der Künste

If it is at the TU I might be able to help directly, otherwise maybe indirectly.
And by now you may find people with at least a basic knowledge of English at those institutions.

Ah, whichever one dealt with economics in the mid 1930s. D: The article I found that referenced the file didn't specify which one of those it was, and info on the dude I'm looking for is hard to come by. I looked for a way to get in touch with someone in the archives who speaks English, but there's nothing I found on FU or HU's pages that allowed me to contact them (at least in English).

In the 1930ies none of those had the names they have today and the FU did not yet exist.

The TU was the Technische Hochschule Berlin or Technische Hochschule Charlottenburg
The HU was the Friedrich-Wilhelms-Universität or simply Berliner Universität

both changed the name after WW2.

I forgot the Akademie der Wissenschaften, which is not a university in the narrow sense but has vast archives (although quite a bit got destroyed in WW2. Trying to flatten a city by incendiaries does that occasionally).

Do you have the web addresses for the online catalogue(s)?
Any concrete info (author, title etc.)?

The HU libraries are a wee bit spread out over the city. I can reach the closest in a bit above half an hour, the farthest would be more like two hours (I am in the far NW, it is in the far SE)
