(( I finally got busy and wrote a little application that takes two text-boxes, and compares them word-by-word, and spits out a list of matches.  I pick one, and it formats the output with that word indicated in a choice of styles.  LOVE programming, sometimes! <heh>  Now, when a song strongly suggests ANOTHER song to me, it's a snap to see if it fits. But, is it cheating?  ::) ))

Song: Stupid Thing
Artist: Aimee Mann

Nothing was saving our day
there was nothing to say,
but you said something anyway
claiming I stepped out of line
which forced you to leave me,
as if that idea was mine.
[Chorus]

Oh, you stupid thing
speaking of course as your dear departed
oh, you stupid thing
it wasn't me that you outsmarted,
you stupid thing
Stopping it all before it even started
I bet you knew it would come
that's just like you, to sit back
and just play it dumb
one word of warning would help
but that sacrifice was made
trying to save yourself
[Chorus]

Oh, you stupid thing
speaking of course as your dear departed
oh, you stupid thing
it wasn't me that you outsmarted
oh, you stupid thing
stopping it all before it even started
Maybe that's just how I am
to fall where I stand,
or I'm weak for that kind of man
one who looks helpless and brave
but you turned into a coward
I don't care for the parts you saved.
[Chorus]

Oh, you stupid thing
speaking of course as your dear departed
oh, you stupid thing
it wasn't me that you outsmarted
Oh, you stupid thing
speaking of course as your dear departed
oh, you stupid thing
it wasn't me that you outsmarted:
Oh, you stupid thing.
Oh, you stupid thing.
Oh, you stupid thing.
Oh, you stupid thing.

Finland

Finland, finland, finland
The country where I want to be
Pony trekking or camping
Or just watching tv
Finland, finland, finland
It's the country for me

You're so near to russia
So far from japan
Quite a long way from cairo
Lots of miles from vietnam

Finland, finland, finland
The country where I want to be
Eating breakfast or dinner
Or snack lunch in the hall
Finland, finland, finland
Finland has it 'all'

You're so sadly neglected
And often ignored
A poor second to belgium
When going abroad

Finland, finland, finland
The country where I quite want to be
Your mountains so lofty
Your treetops so tall
Finland, finland, finland
Finland has it all

Finland, finland, finland
The country where I quite want to be
Your mountains so lofty
Your treetops so tall
Finland, finland, finland
Finland has it all

Finland has it all

The Final Cut

Through the fish-eyed lens of tear stained eyes
I can barely define the shape of this moment in time
And far from flying high in clear blue skies
I'm spiraling down to the hole in the ground where I hide.

If you negotiate the minefield in the drive
And beat the dogs and cheat the cold electronic eyes
And if you make it past the shotguns in the hall,
Dial the combination, open the priesthole
And if I'm in I'll tell you what's behind the wall.

There's a kid who had a big hallucination
Making love to girls in magazines.
He wonders if you're sleeping with your new found faith.
Could anybody love him
Or is it just a crazy dream?

And if I show you my dark side
Will you still hold me tonight?
And if I open my heart to you
And show you my weak side
What would you do?
Would you sell your story to Rolling Stone?
Would you take the children away
And leave me alone?
And smile in reassurance
As you whisper down the phone?
Would you send me packing?
Or would you take me home?

Thought I oughta bare my naked feelings,
Thought I oughta tear the curtain down.
I held the blade in trembling hands
Prepared to make it but just then the phone rang
I never had the nerve to make the final cut.

Sibling Chatty

Am I losing it, or is there no "continung line" word highlighted, marked, bolded, italicized or whatever in the last 2 songs?

I could be losing it, yes...i'm quite aware of that.

I did not detect the continuation to MY post.  However, MY continuation word was highlighted using purple, which is not all that bright.

The word, by the way, was "hall", and is at the end of the 3rd line, in the 2nd paragraph.

I likely won't use purple-highlight again, it's too weak. :P

Title:   Cuts Both Ways

It cuts both ways
Our love is like knife
That cuts both ways
It's driven deep into my heart each time
That I realize
How it cuts both ways
Can't be together
Cannot live apart
We're heading straight into a broken heart
But I can't stop

'cause I feel too much to let you go
I'm hurting you and it's hard i know
To stay and fight for what we've got
Knowing it'll never be good enough
'cause you and I are dangerous
We want too much and life ain't that way
Don't ask for more
Don't be a fool
Haven't we already broken every rule
Unity is Strength. Knowledge is Power. Attitude is Everything.

Both Sides Now
Joni Mitchell

Rows and floes of angel hair
And ice cream castles in the air
And feather canyons evrywhere
Ive looked at clouds that way

But now they only block the sun
They rain and snow on evryone
So many things I would have done
But clouds got in my way
Ive looked at clouds from both sides now
From up and down, and still somehow
Its cloud illusions I recall
I really dont know clouds at all

Moons and junes and ferris wheels
The dizzy dancing way you feel
As evry fairy tale comes real
Ive looked at love that way

But now its just another show
You leave em laughing when you go
And if you care, dont let them know
Dont give yourself away

Ive looked at love from both sides now
From give and take, and still somehow
Its loves illusions I recall
I really dont know love at all

Tears and fears and feeling proud
To say I love you right out loud
Dreams and schemes and circus crowds
Ive looked at life that way

But now old friends are acting strange
They shake their heads, they say Ive changed
Well somethings lost, but somethings gained
In living evry day

Ive looked at life from both sides now
From win and lose and still somehow
Its lifes illusions I recall
I really dont know life at all
Ive looked at life from both sides now
From up and down, and still somehow
Its lifes illusions I recall
I really dont know life at all
Sometimes, the real journey can only be taken by making a mistake.

Aphos

What goes up, must come down
Spinnin' wheel, got ta go round
Talkin' 'bout your troubles it's a cryin' sin
Ride a painted pony,
let the spinnin' wheel spin

Ya got no money, and ya
ya got no home
Spinnin' wheel all alone
Talkin' 'bout your troubles and ya
ya never learn
Ride a painted pony,
let the spinnin' wheel turn

Did ya find a directing sign
on the straight and narrow highway?
Would you mind a reflecting sign
Just let it shine, within your mind
And show you the colours that are real.

My apologies o ever seeing Sibling Chatty, but I have a crap computer that doesn't let me make anything bold or use any of the clever functions the Toadfish has to offer.  I have to use quotation marks...here's another example:

TURN THAT HEARTBEAT OVER AGAIN

Steely Dan

With stocking face I bought a gun
The plan was set the plan was done
Looked at my watch and started for the door
Now the food here ain't so good no more
And they closed the package store

CHORUS:
Love your mama, love your brother
Love 'em till they run for cover
Turn the light off, keep your shirt on
Cry a jag on me

Oh Michael Oh Jesus you know I'm not to blame
You know my reputation for playing a good clean game
Oh Michael Oh Jesus I'll keep my promise when
You turn that heartbeat over again

My poison's named you know my brand
So please make mine a double, Sam
Stir it up nice I'll eat it right here
This "highway" runs from Paraguay
And I've just come all the way

CHORUS

We warned the corpse of William Wright
Not to cuss and drink all night
Ticket in hand I saw him laid to rest
But zombie see and zombie do
He's here with me and you

CHORUS

Note the word 'Highway' is in quotation marks...I need to get a life and I need to listen to music other than Steely Dan...I know, I know!

She was only the Lighthouse Keeper's daughter, but she never went out at night

(got a bit misty-eyed the first time I heard this haunting melody & song. A short sample can be found here, at Amazon )

Artist: Edie Brickell
Song: Lost In The Moment

The register stood open as the smoke cleared the room
And one man was lying over blood and a broom
The store door was swingin' in a midnight breeze
And another man ran through the dark and the trees

Lost in the moment of what he needs
Lost in the moment of what he needs

He ran past the motel threw his gun in the trash
Looked down through the darkness and counted the cash
The man at the store was trying to stand
Looked up through the white light and reached out his hand

Lost in the moment of what he needs
Lost in the moment of what he needs
Are you there can you hear me
Are you there

The ambulance arrived but it was too late
In the spin of the red lights they covered his face
He had a wife who was waiting watching TV in bed
Wondering why he wasn't home yet
Their baby was sleeping until the telephone rang
He woke and he cried out but nobody came

Lost in the moment of what he needs
Lost in the moment of what he needs
Are you there can you hear me
Are you there

She doesn't know what they'll do now now that he's gone
Try to get over and try to get on
Alone in the backyard a cool afternoon
The tree they planted has started to bloom
She wanted him to see this she wanted him there
She wanted to kiss him and brush back his hair

Lost in the moment of what she needs
Lost in the moment of what she needs
Sometimes, the real journey can only be taken by making a mistake.

Take them lights away
Trash, wont pick it up
Don't take your life away
Trash, don't try to take my life away

And please dontcha ask me if I love you
If you don't know what I'm doin' (whatcha know is)
----those are all the lines,
some repeated more, sometimes different wording-----

Cus I don't know if I do
Cus the way that I feel with you
And take a lovers leap with you
And go to fairyland with you
Go to heaven blue with you
I just don't know if I do
I just don't know if I do
---break---

Blue on black - Kenny Wayne Sheppard Band

Night falls and I'm alone
Skin, yeah chilled to the bone
You turned and you ran
Oh slipped right from my hands

Chorus:
Hey, blue on black, tears on the river
push comes to shove and it don't mean much.
Joker on jack, match on a fire
cold on ice, it's a dead man's touch.
Whisper or a scream, doesn't mean a thing
doesn't bring you back.
Blue on black.

Blind, oh, but now I see.
Truth, lies, and in between.
Wrongs can't be undone, no
Oh, slipped, from the tip of your tongue.

Chorus

Insanity takes it's toll; please have correct change.

Artist: Earrings Golden Lyrics
Song: When The Bullet Hits The Bone

Intro:
Somewhere in a lonely hotel room
There's a guy starting to realize
That eternal fate has turned his back on him...

Verse 1:
It's 2 A.M. the fear has gone
I'm sitting here waiting the gun still warm
Maybe my connection is tired of taking chances

Verse 2:
Yeah there's a storm on the loose
Sirens in my head
Wrapped up in silence all circuits are dead
Cannot decode my whole life spins into a frenzy...

Chorus:
Help I'm stepping into the twilight zone
Place is a madhouse feels like being cloned
My beacon's been moved under moon and star
Where am I to go now that I've gone too far
Help I'm stepping into the twilight zone
Place is a madhouse feels like being cloned
My beacon's been moved under moon and star
Where am I to go now that I've gone too far
So you'll come to know
When the bullet hits the bone
So you'll come to know
When the bullet hits the bone

Verse 3:
I'm falling down a spiral--destination unknown
Double crossed messenger--all alone
Can't get no connection, can't get through--where are you

Verse 4:
Well the night weighs heavy on his guilty mind
This far from the border line
When the hitman comes he knows damn well
he has been cheated...
And he says

Chorus
Sometimes, the real journey can only be taken by making a mistake.

Sibling Lambicus the Toluous

That wife of mine's the suspicious kind
She says that I'm quite a flirter
But I've been a good boy all of the time
And I wouldn't do nothin' to hurt her.
She'd tan my hide for spending the night
With Betty-Lou or Alice
But I'm sleeping alone in this wreck I own
Broke down south of Dallas

When I stumble home at the break of dawn
She better not be suspicious
'Cause I'm about at the end of my rope
And she better not act too vicious
I'm covered with grease from my head to my feet
My hands are cut and calloused
I spent all my bucks on a broke-down truck
Broke down south of Dallas

I'm a happy guy when the miles roll by
There ain't too much that I'm missin'
But I got a wife with a frying pan
And when she talks, I listen
I'm the king of the road, she's the queen of the house
And it may not be a palace
But it sure beats a load by the side of the road
Broke down south of Dallas
Yeah, it sure beats a load by the side of the road
Broke down south of Dallas

- "Broke Down South of Dallas", Junior Brown
