What are you ...ing? / Re: What Are You Listening To?
October 15, 2009, 07:55:07 PM
I'm listening to the music from the game Harbor Master (for the iPhone/iPod Touch) going through my head over and over.  It's a cute and catchy number featuring a xylophone and bongos.

BTW - the game itself is very nautical and very addictive, but at one point you have to shoot at pirates, so it's got its flaws.  Still, the Lite (i.e. free) version is worth checking out.

This doesn't win, but I think it's interesting enough to share:

I just like how I managed to get the SOE, "list of fictional cats" and Christian Alt-rock all in there.   ;D

He hadn't gone to Switzerland since 2005 (the year the California prosecutor place the request)? To be honest, I only know that he had a villa in Switzerland.

Reading here and there the prosecutor knew he was going to Switzerland to receive the award and notified the Swiss.
I don't know.  It could be that it wasn't enough of a priority for the Swiss police to watch his villa for months on end until he arrived, but if they knew he was going to be in a particular place at a particular time and were pressured to get him by the Americans, that was enough to make them pick him up.

The incident is more than 30 years old and the victim would love to skip the attention. I don't condone in any way Mr. Polansky's actions but I have the feeling that the whole thing is a bit out of proportion all around. Now the extradition case will drag for months and the victim has become the victim (of the media attention, reliving the incident, etc) again.
But the same could be said of any cold case involving rape.

Should there be an "expiry date" for violent crimes, where if we haven't put someone in prison already, the matter gets dropped out of regard for the victims?

He's a convicted rapist who deliberately evaded capture for decards.  He shouldn't benefit from his own illegal actions; he should be sent to prison to serve his sentence.

Quote from: Sibling Zono (anon1mat0) on September 28, 2009, 10:17:13 PMThere should be a way to solve this things in a better way. Besides, how is it that for 30 years the guy has come and gone from Switzerland and now he gets arrested? I wonder what changed.
His movements got a lot more attention across the board after he put out a public statement in 2004 or 2005 (IIRC) when he said he wouldn't be going to the UK to accept an award because of their extradition treaty with the US and his outstanding conviction.

Quote from: Bluenose on April 26, 2009, 10:26:18 PMAs for brands, the price diff between the tier one vendors and the cheapies has reduced to the point that I generally recommend people buy brands like HP and Toshiba.  Sony are generally well regarded, as well.
My personal machine is a 4-year-old Toshiba Satellite running Windows XP that was originally my father's work machine.  It's been generally good, except for a few things:

- the touchpad hasn't worked since I got it, though I don't know if this is just because my Dad disabled it.
- the battery doesn't last nearly as long as it used to - only about half an hour.

My wife got a new Toshiba Satellite running Vista at Christmas and so far it's been fine; she's been generally happy with it.  I can't remember the exact model, but it's an AMD dual core beastie and seems happy enough to run Vista.

Good job, Chatty.

BTW - if anyone's interested in self-defense using canes and walking sticks, this page is a good resource of links and manuals - look near the bottom under the heading "Self Defence using the walking stick". ;)

Elgin---EL gin (as in the alcohol, with a j sound)?? No, El GIN with a G sound.
There's a road north of Toronto called Elgin Mills... most people pronounce that with a G sound, too.

Which craft is incompatible?  ;) Stalin was known for his broom (it was an iron one though).
And Marxist Anarchists would more likely set fire to the car, not trying to steal that bourgeois symbol of decadence.
A 323 is a bourgeois symbol of decadence?  Are we talking about the base model or the GTX version? ???

Oh... one that used to drive me bonkers: there's a town near Woodstock, Ontario, named "Delhi"... spelled just like the Indian city.

When I was dating a girl from Woodstock, she and her friends would laugh at me when I prounounced it like the city in India, i.e. "deli".  They'd say that it was actually pronounced "dell-high".   ???
