I tend not to believe in these sort of things, but many of the signs are there (although I'm less than convinced about the thug caste, but that could be because it's just starting), and with this latest batch in office, it wouldn't entirely surprise me.

looks about right to me. The interesting thing is that people make so much of a systen of 'checks and balances' in the US constitution that is designed to prevent just this sort of thing happening. It seems to be failing and always contained some serious design flaws (eg. political appointment of supreme court judges).

The writing has been on the wall since time immemorial Due to the FIRST STEP which the article does not mention. Everyone knows that the minute you take the eagle as a national symbol fascism is practically guaranteed!

I'm not sure--the article gets everything right, but I'm still not sure. I half believe it and half don't, and I really don't want to. That could be the issue, though.

The system is capable of working--it did for a fairly long time--but it is falling away, and that makes me very very nervous.

I never meant to suggest Blackwater wasn't thuggery. This article implies that the thugs must be wandering the countryside of the their homeland, and they aren't (YET).

Look at the organization of the militia movement.

There's crossover there. Training, and the concept is already rampant in the militia movement that WHEN the 'time comes' it'll be a "new movement" led out of the remains of the 'old government'.

The big crossover points are in the 'borderlands' militias, but it's a growing talking point for many of them.
