Your 9 in 1693 look a lot like a 7 to me

Oh, poo!  Score one cock-up - it was too early in the morning.  Sorry about that.  Es irrt der Mensch, solang er strebt.

Note the space at the bottom for filling in the amount of Rixdaler/Krone paid.  The phrase 'for bare Penge' reminds me of a very rude suggestion we used to make to the Danish girls when I lived near Flensburg.  Aaah, the good old days.

So, the travelogue is dangerous? Did this hold true for the voyage too?
But that looks more like an ß than an s, so it is actually a tear-apart description. That could be dangerous indeed.

Hey, Swato, I read Schellmuffsky on my undergraduate course.  Every other sentence begins, "ich wil eyn hundsfott seyn ..."   Charming stuff.
Anyway, 1698:

DavidH, do you also know this?

Not in German; I've read bits in the original.  It's a lovely example of quaint and picturesque early New High German.

Howzis?

The Geschichtsklitterung is actually seen as the Finnegan's Wake of uts day using Rabelais only as a pretense for language experiments.
Btw, do you know Faust III by Deutobold Symbolizetti Allegoriowitsch Msytifizinksy? (aka Friedrich Theodor Vischer)

Ah, OK.  Then I don't know it, but it seems worth a look.  Thanks.

No.  Faust II is pretty bad  - is part III any better?

How's about .....

... and another loco just for luck.

Faust - Der Tragödie dritter Teil is a parody by a professor that thought Faust I was a work of genius and Faust II completely misguided and unintentionally funny. It also takes aim at the interpretation mania of Germanists. E.g. Faust has to try to explain the deeper meaning of the Homunculus to the Selige Knaben in pre-heaven elementary school (and fails miserably despite some CliffsNotes hidden under the table).

Hey, Aphos, that rum looks like the most attractive thing I've seen in this thread.
Swato, Faust - Der Tragödie dritter Teil sounds like more fun than Part II.  I'll try and get hold of it.

And another loco....
