Oh! Oh!  Dibs on this on if no one else thought of it.

Can we use heat from the attic to dry clothes?  I know my attic is hot enough.  ;D

In the US there are special lanes on the freeway for people that carpool.  These lanes are marked with a diamond symbol.  Essentially it means that any vehicle that uses this lane needs to have more that one person in it.

I really don't think the diamond lanes get used very much by anyone except violators and families on vacation.

My suggestion to increase the popularity of hybrid vehicles would be to allow hybrid vehicles to use these lanes even though they only have one person in them.

Announcements / Shoutbox Removed
January 21, 2007, 01:13:08 PM
Hi Everybody,

I have to remove the Shoutbox temporarily, maybe permanently.  Unfortunately the Shoutbox consumes a lot of resources and ultimately slows the site down.  I am going to see if I can find or make a Shoutbox that supports caching but it may be a bit.

Thanks,
MB

Davey Jones's Locker / Huge Changes
December 20, 2006, 07:02:11 PM
Hi All,

I am changing a setting that may impact the board.  Please tell me quickly if you see anything broken over the next couple days.  Tell me if you see any problems go away too.   ;D

The board may have hiccuped when I made this change.  If you had any errors make sure they aren't recurrent.

Thanks,
MB

Okay, it's not mine.  This guy is a friend of mine. It's just him and his guitar, he has no backup band, he did it all himself.  I just started putting together this website for him. It's not ready for prime time but some of his tracks are.  I like "Time."  "Out of Your Mind," rocks. "If you were mine" sounds like a hit. Give it a listen and tell him what you think.

Games and Jokes / Holiday Eating Tips.
December 05, 2006, 11:58:30 AM
I have some tips for holiday eating here.  Please add yours!  ;D

1. Avoid carrot sticks. Anyone who puts carrots on a holiday buffet table knows nothing of the Christmas spirit. In fact, if  you see carrots, leave immediately.  Go next door, where they're serving rum balls.

2. Drink as much eggnog as you can. And quickly. Like fine single-malt scotch, it's rare.  In fact, it's even rarer than single-malt scotch. You can't find it any other time of year but now.  So drink up!  Who cares that it has 10,000 calories in every sip?  It's not as if you're going to turn into an eggnog-alcoholic or something. It's a treat. Enjoy it. Have one for me. Have two. It's later than you think. It's Christmas!

3. If something comes with gravy, use it. That's the whole point of gravy. Gravy does not stand alone. Pour it on. Make a volcano out of your mashed potatoes. Fill it with gravy. Eat the volcano. Repeat.

4. As for mashed potatoes, always ask if they're made with skim milk or whole milk.  If it's skim, pass. Why bother? It's like buying a sports car with an automatic transmission.

5. Do not have a snack before going to a party in an effort to control your eating. The whole point of going to a Christmas party is to eat other people's food for free. Lots of it. Hello?

6. Under no circumstances should you exercise between now and New Year's. You can do that in January when you have nothing else to do. This is the time for long naps, which you'll need after circling the buffet table while carrying a 10-pound plate of food and that vat of eggnog.

7. If you come across something really good at a buffet table, like frosted Christmas cookies in the shape and size of Santa, position yourself near them and don't budge. Have as many as you can before becoming the centre of attention. They're like a beautiful pair of shoes. If you leave them behind, you're never going to see them again.

8. Same for pies. Apple, pumpkin and mincemeat. Have a slice of each. Or if you don't like mincemeat, have two apples and one pumpkin. Always have three. When else do you get to have more than one dessert -- Labor Day?

9. Did someone mention fruitcake? Granted, it's loaded with the mandatory celebratory calories, but avoid it at all cost. I mean, have some standards.

10. One final tip: If you don't feel terrible when you leave the party or get up from the table, you haven't been paying attention.  Re-read tips; start over, but hurry, January is just around the corner. Remember this motto to live by:

"Life should NOT be a journey to the grave with the intention of arriving safely in an attractive and well preserved body, but rather to skid in sideways, chocolate in one hand, martini in the other, body thoroughly used up, totally worn out and screaming "WOO HOO what a ride!"

Have a great holiday season!

Announcements / Lost Passwords
October 04, 2006, 02:06:57 AM
Hi Everybody!

I have a bit of a problem here. (no kidding  ;D)  Anyway, looks like there is a bug in the "resend activation" link and the "forgot my password" link. The forgot my password link is more like forget my password and never let me login again link.  The bug is you never get the email.

If you forget your password you need to contact an administrator here and have them change your password.  The password needs to be changed both in Joomla and in SMF until I can get a bug fix.

Sorry for the inconvienence,

Davey Jones's Locker / New Template
October 01, 2006, 02:34:03 PM
Hi everybody!

I have a new template to brighten the place up a little.

If you look on the home page in the first column towards the bottom, you'll see a Template Chooser.  To see the other template select 'ja_avior_ex' and click select.  If you have looked at this template before then you may need to refresh your browser.

Right off you may notice that it doesn't go with the 'Black22' theme in the Forum.  The template that goes with 'ja_avoir_ex' is 'SMFOne_Blue.'  To use this template with the forum, click on your profile.  Click on the 'Look and Layout Preferences' link in the left column of the forum, not the left column if the site if that is visible.  Close to the top there will be a bold entry for 'Current Theme.' To the right of the currently selected theme there is a link titled 'Change.'  Clicking on that link brings up a list of the current themes.  A little way down the list you'll see the 'SMFOne_Blue' template.  In the right hand corner of the SMFOne_Blue theme box you'll see the 'use this theme' link.  Click on that link to use SMFOne_Blue.  Don't use the other SMFOne templates yet as I haven't modified them yet.

Now that you have the SMFOne_Blue template selected I will talk a little about the special custom features of the 'ja_avoir_ex' template.  If you notice in the upper right hand corner of the site on the home page you'll see some faint links that change the way the template is displayed.  I won't go into them individually as they are fairly self explanatory.  If you hover over them with the mouse-pointer they tell you what they do.

Another cool feature of the 'ja_avoir_ex' template are the color selectors.  If you look under the pictures of the Toadfish in the upper left hand corner there are some color boxes.  If you click on the colors you'll notice that the colors change, even in the Forum, if you have java enabled and your browser supports alternate stylesheets.

The available colors are the default ones.  If anybody would like some different colors I will see what I can do.  Maybe we can have a poll on new colors.

Now the disclaimer.  If anybody has any problems with the new template please post here.  This template is brand new and customized so their may be some problems.  You can just flip back to the old one if you run into trouble.  If you can't flip back just delete your cookies for this site and you should be back in business.

Oh!  Also the forum has been upgraded to the latest Simple Machines Forum and the Joomla SMF Bridge has also been updated to the latest version.  I think that has taken care of a few problems here.  If you run into any problems, log out and log back in and see if it still happens.  If you can't log out from the home page go to toadfishmonaster.com/forum and log out.  Then log in from the home page.  If you still get the error then PM me.

Thanks,
MB (Your humble whippin' geek. ;D)

I know this isn't very intuitive.  There's a little triangle to the left of the home button in the forum.  Not the home on the left side vertical menu, but the horizontal one that is part of Simple Machines Forum.  If you click on that it opens up a little search menu.  In that hidden section there is a menu for private messages.   ;D

Davey Jones's Locker / Site Template

The Toadfish Monastery template needs a tweak here and there.

That "SHOW/HIDE NAV" button in the upper left hand corner, does anybody know how to make it stick?  I mean when I hide the Main Menu I want it to stay hidden until I open it again.

No hole barred site content... It's about us toadfish so we'll make whatever you want.  Right of the bat I would say we need something about the mission of the Toadfish Monastery right on the front page.
