Heh, maybe I should correct...  I've never seen more wild strawberries on a walk than I cared to eat immediately.  Even in the good picking areas they are quite sparse and the berries are very small (2 or 3 berries the size of a green pea per plant max).  Huckleberries are easier to pick a pail or two of.

I'm a patient being. ;D
If I don't eat them right at the spot I'll get to make wild strawberry vodka and rum.

I have some Blueberries/Huckleberries too...

It's a good thing Kiyo (aka Alcohol Boy) doesn't read the gardening threads, or he'd be headed your way right now. ;D

Hey, anthrobabe...  didn't we have a chiliheads thread before (other place)?  We should start one again.  BTW, my avocado just came up, but it's my understanding most plants won't fruit indoors as they don't properly hit maturity in a pot.
WWDDD?

anthrobabe

yes we did have a chiliehead thread! I agree we need one- do you want to start- and under food again? I'll follow your lead

I was thinking it was a maturity thing for the avocado- I'm going to keep trying- the plants are pretty even with just the leaves.

I'm already planning a trip... First visit Agie and empty his liquor cabinet, then Lambi and drink his home made ale... And then it's time for tasty Strawberry rum... Afterwards, you'll find me in the Pirate Public School drinking the Captain's Delight...

"No, don't hide the women and children, hide the rum!!!!"

Here's a few pics of the balcony, complete with Porch Monster Venus.
There's more there than meets the eye because I've arranged them to hide some of the uglier containers.

I still can't get a good shot of the climbing bean vines due to a bright background.

You have a black cat named Venus?

So do I.

Aggie

Have you seen her lately?  This one is on loan. :D

This morning.  She must be really fast or maybe transdimensional?

Aggie

Most cats are transdimensional, I think.

Darlica my mint started in a pot- busted the pot and is now a riot in the front yard. In years goneby when company was spotted coming in rural areas -often a small child was sent out with a broom to "beat the mint" to release a welcoming smell for the visitors.

Mint plants= riot herbs
If I didn't spent hours on my knees in my mothers herb garden every summer there would be mint all over the place...

And I would love to talk chili cooking as well as how to grow them.
Thai squid and chili sallad! Mmmmm. :)

Lovely balcony! Do you have any room to sit down or are you using it exclusivly to grow plants? Some summers I have had plants all ower mine with just enough room for a small stool.

This is starting to get a bit spooky.  But, yes a no name brand from the local chinese shop. Chops meat and bones (and finger tips) like butter. :)

I have room for a couple of chairs and a drop-leaf table out there; it's often hot in the apartment so we have been eating meals (and drinking beer and coffee) on the patio.  The balcony is rather long and narrow, so I store recycling and the winter tires for the car at the far end.  I also have a BBQ close to the door.

Heh, my cleaver is a cheap Henckels 6" chinese cleaver (never quite sure which one to buy at the Chinese markets).  It's a bit light for big bones but works great for chopping garlic, herbs, veggies, meat. I bought a 19" meat saw recently for the big jobs, like whole legs of venison.

I even hauled a cleaver around Australia for 3 months once - hostel knives are too dull. :D

You won't even notice I've been there, only the empty bottles will be the witness of my doing...

I'm quite fast, when alcohol is involved... ;)

And don't worry, I won't try anything inappropriate, I'm not spoken, but I'm not someone, who would try anything against will... ;D
