I'm not sure what to say about myself... I like beading, cooking, gardening, hiking and swimming, and I just got into kayaking this year. I love books but I don't have as much time to read as I used to. I'm mostly a homebody, but I go out with my friends twice a week or so, to workout or have dinner or whatever.
Anyway, hi! I heard this was an interesting, open-minded site, so I thought I poke my head in and wander around a bit.
Hi there Jayna, welcome to the Toadfish Monastery. There is not too much here you need to watch out for, nothing will bite you. Although I would watch out for the squidlings and never take an IOU from any of the pirates...
Enjoy yourself!

Hi Jayna! We are happy to see new faces around here. Don't feel intimidated, we don't bite although I would watch out for any advances from the pirates. ;)

Hey, darlin'...what have you gotten us into THIS time?
Hey, everyone, I'm Jayna's friend Zan. We bounce around the internet together, and - as she said - we heard nice things about this place.
Well, TWO new faces! Welcome, and avoid the fish head stew!

Well, I'll try, but Jayna will have me into that vile stuff eventually.
And thanks for the welcome!
Yum, fish head stew!
I don't know what I've gotten us into yet, but it does seem rather nice.
Off to find the gardening threads!

Well, my only concern is that I have an odd sense of humor. If I cross the line into being offensive, please let me know. I am used to very rough-and-tumble forums (which I am heartily sick of), and what I find funny, some people find disturbing. I don't want to cause a ruckus, or ruin anything for anyone else, so again...if I get out of line, please let me know, until I get used to where the line is, so to speak.
There are some useful smilies you can use to indicate off-humour, like :irony: for example. Many of us have a strange idea of what's amusing

No worries, there is a place for rants (which apparently you already found ;)).
See, I knew yer wuz 'bein gud'! :P
Welcome to both Jayna and Zan. You're both fun, and don't worry too much about restraining any sick senses of humor. Most of us are a bit twisted, and we like us this way.
Our main point here is to include listening in with our conversation. Listening is a part of communication that is lost on flamers. To listen, and show consideration for what someone else is trying to say, is a form of mutual respect. It shows that we are both legitimate, not just one of us.
Except me! :irony: (Note the use of our "lil' Irony"here!)
Puking is acceptable, too. We have an emoticon for that, too, but it makes me nauseous.

As long as swearing is OK, I should be fine. I've tried not to swear on other forums, and I always end up forgetting.
Actually, we prefer to keep swearing to a minimum. We do have codes, however, which may be found in the Toadfish lexicon. Feel free to come up with more creative ways to express yourselves.
PS: We also try to avoid much double posting.

Oh dear. :( Sorry about that. Those are two of my hardest-to-kill habits... I used to be quite a fan of dialup BBSes, and back in the day you never knew when you were going to hit "post" and lose your connection, rendering all your work null, so most of us soon developed the habit of posting only one thought-strand per post so as not to lose too much if it all went tits-up.
I'll try to watch that.
And I think I can keep swearing to a minimum... as long as I don't get in trouble for the occasional slip. I'm a nice lady, I swear!

Well, I will attempt to mind my language. Other than that, I have no intention of posting anything remotely NSFW...there are more appropriate venues for that sort of thing.
And thank you for your kind welcome.
To save you time, the Lexicon may be found >>>>here<<<< (http://toadfishmonastery.com/forum/index.php?topic=1092.0)
Maybe we need some new lexicon swear words. Anyone feeling creative ? ;) ;)
Extra points for describing what the swear word is without actually using the swear word!
Hello everyone! I'm Smirkat, but you may know me better as the Opsalette, as my mother, Opsa, refers to me. But please, call me Smirky!
Smirky! I'm glad you're here! :-*
Please feel free to move about the forum. There's some fun things to do, here. (Warning- Smirkat has checked out the Arcade and will give you a run for your money in there!)
You can see what's currently being discussed by choosing
"Recent Posts" in the left-hand side bar. These are usually the posts that have been made since you were last in, I think. (Please correct me if and when I'm wrong- and frequently!) Choose the last page number to get to the latest post in any thread.
To report on local weather go here (http://toadfishmonastery.com/index.php?option=com_smf&Itemid=32&topic=322.1770;topicseen), scroll to the bottom post and reply.
To play the word association game, go here (http://toadfishmonastery.com/index.php?option=com_smf&Itemid=32&topic=96.17790;topicseen) and reply with the next word you think of after reading the latest posted word.
Other games are here. (http://toadfishmonastery.com/index.php?option=com_smf&Itemid=32&board=38.0)

Here's (http://toadfishmonastery.com/index.php?option=com_smf&Itemid=32&board=14.0) where we go to complain.
We have lots of pirates, here. You can explore your inner (or outer) pirate by visiting one of the threads (http://toadfishmonastery.com/index.php?option=com_smf&Itemid=32&board=40.0) in the Pirate Cove. Their spelling is a little bit unique, but they're a foin lot. Just don't eat the fish-head stewe!!!!
You can also start posts about things that you would like to discuss by going to a section and choosing "Start Topic".
Oh, and we have a chat board at the bottom of every page. If you hear a strummy sound while you're in the forum, it is someone in there making a comment, and you can answer them right back if you like by writing in the message box and then hitting "send".
Let us know if you have any questions. We're happy to help.
Welcome, Smirkat!
Glad you're aboard. :D
G'day Smirky, from the Land Downunder. Hope you enjoy out little corner of the Interwebs, take time to look around, but be careful near the moat, the squidlings haven't seen any fresh meat visitors for a while...
Welcome! Hope you enjoy this place. Wander around to get to know us. And we will get to know you. Beware Pirates.
Greetings, Smirky who used to be known as th'Opsalette. I'm delighted that you've joined. I hope you can put up with us old dodderers, but I imagine you've already seen our geriatric witterings on Opsa's account.
I trust you will support Pieces' campaign for the papacy, we need the young vote. ;)

Umm, you're right, I needed an extra comma after the g'day. Still, I'm sure Smirky knows she's not from downunder, so probably no harm done... ::)
Ah, there are so many kind people here! I think I may like it (though I still need to figure out a few things first) Mom has told me a few things about some of you, and you all sound pretty nice to me!
We is not noice, we is dread scourges o' th' Seven Seas!
Or, terribly refined cream of Society types.
And everything in between......
Welcome to our little, friendly, crazy corner of the Intarwebs, anyway. ;D
Welcome Smirky!
I think Opsa did a pretty good presentation of the place. :)
It's always a good idea to read a bit to learn to know the place and the people but don't ever worry about if you should post or not because you are new, your voice and opinion matters as much as anybody else's.
We might get serious at times and some discussions might be heated, but we also goof around quite a lot.
Something that I like a lot is the spirit that it's Ok to agree to disagreeing. That is one of the things that have me stick around here for years. :) That and the company. ;D
BTW "Guardian Toadfish" is the moderator title around here, you can always PM any of us if there is anything ask about this place.
I'll hope you will enjoy this place!
