Hi folks, a quick question for the more technically minded.

How do I post pictures?

I realise that this is a ridiculous question, and it may well be that I am missing something tragically simple, such as a "press this, and it will be done" button, but not good with technology. Blood system, food webs and population dynamics, no problem. Putting a picture into a post, beyond me.

Any and all assistance gratefully accepted..

There are a few options:

A. If you have the picture in your hard drive and it is smaller than 128K you can attach it to your post. To do so in a thread reply look for the link 'Additional Options' below the text box. It will expand a few options and at the other side of the 'Attach' box there will be a 'Browse' button with which you can look for the picture in question. The result will look like the picture attached at the bottom of this post.

B. If the picture is already on the internet you can use the [ img ] tag like this:
[img]http://www.myserver.com/myimg.jpg[/img]
The result is like this:

C. If the picture is bigger than 128K then you will have to use a picture hosting service (like photobucket), upload your image there and then paste the provided [ img ] tag on your post.

Hope that helps.

If'n you don't wanna type out the [ img ] tags yourself, there's a convenient button on the toolbar above the box where you type your post. It's in the second row of buttons, third from the left, next to the YouTube button. I think it's supposed to be a picture frame.

Pachy you are not the only one!

I've used the "picture frame" button but I want to put stuff in my texts

and I want to know how to do the really neat thing where a word or phrase can be a link, like someone will post a link and it will say

"here" or something and you click on it and it is a link.

on second thought- probably not good to try and explain it to me. I'll have my 8 year old niece show me next time she is at the house.

At the risk of making your niece surplus to requirement, here's how you do it:

- type out your text (e.g. "I want my link to be here.")
- highlight the word you want to be a link (e.g. "here")
- click the "globe and piece of paper" icon above the smileys.  This will change what you're inputting to this:
I want my link to be [url]here[/url].

- in the first url tag, add an "=" and the URL of your link (I believe it needs the whole "http://" shebang at the beginning, but someone else can confirm/deny).  You'll get something like this:

I want my link to be [url=http://toadfishmonastery.com]here[/url].

And that's it!  The final result will look like this:

I want my link to be here.

Opsa

Thank you! I so wanted to do just that the other day, and couldn't figure it out.

Sincerely,
Another Luddite

Actually since you kindly supplied graphics I think that is doable.

I wasn't really looking forward to an 8 year old snickering at me!

I think it worked-- but I've got some other crap attached somehow so I'm going to probably remove it

I just found that photo via google - don't know who's child it is- but it could be my nephews or niece easily

You could be really nifty and make clickable images.
